Pumping the breaks on Ashland “wheel tax”

ASHLAND – Ashland County lawmakers back away from implementing a so-called “wheel tax”. The Daily Press reports county board members decided not to vote on the proposal citing resident complaints as one of the reasons. The tax would have added a $25 charge per vehicle which would have gone to closing the $430,000 gap in the 2021 county budget. Lawmakers now plan to dip into savings to fund county operations and borrow $1 million to pay for road projects. A resort tax is also under consideration.
