EAGLE RIVER – Illegal Off Trail Riding Cause for Concern in Vilas County. Snowmobilers are out in force as of late and there are some riders who are threating access by going off trail, violating one of the biggest rules of snowmobiling…stay on marked trails. Vilas County parks and recreation supervisor Todd Bierman says they are seeing that rule broken often. He says that their trails aren’t marketed as off-trail riding, unlike ones in the UP or out west in the mountains. He also says his office is getting complaints from landowners that riders are trespassing, which could discourage them from giving permission for trail access. Another issue with going off trail is not knowing whats ahead of a rider, which could be deadly.
