Clean Audit for Bessemer

BESSEMER – The Bessemer city council met lasting night.  The council discussed their recent audit report.  The report indicated that Bessemer received an excellent rating with only of few comments noted which the city was able to resolve quickly.  The General fund currently has $956,604 and the cities pension fund is down to $729,477 from $802,526 last year and the city has been able to lower that liability yearly since 2018.  The only comment the audit referenced was a small reserve fund which was easily fixed.  The council also discussed parking in the city of Bessemer especially on Mary Street, which is a one-way street downtown.  The issue is of residents parking on the street and sidewalks impeding plowing efforts.  Those found in violation will find a sticker or note on their windshield to alert them that there are in violation.  Continued violation will result in a vehicle being towed.  The city also discussed to changes to the alcohol requirements when the city park is rented for a family event.  The discussion was to perhaps relax some of the rules regarding alcohol.  The city will be looking into whether such changes are allowed per the cities insurance and will discuss the topic again at a future meeting.
