Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties Receive Grant to Help Moms

BESSEMER – Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties Receive Grant to Help Moms and Babies. The Upper Peninsula Perinatal Quality Collaborative in Gogebic and Ontonagon as well as Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw counties will share in a $50,000 grant through the Advancing Maternal Health Equity program. The grant is funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation. The grant program is targeted at community based organizations to help combat mortality of babies in the womb, infants and mothers in areas in the U.P. with the highest incidence of those deaths, especially those connected to substance abuse. The grant program is part of Blue Cross Blue Shields multi-year health equity plan to reduce racial disparities in maternal health.
