Future of a Ramsay post office uncertain.

RAMSAY – After damage from heavy snow last winter Bessemer township officials have now decided to tear down the Ramsay post office building, making residents in Ramsay wondering if they will ever have a local post office again. The U.S. Postal Service closed the Ramsay facility back in March due to structural damage and safety concerns. Currently, the township is awaiting results from an asbestos sample that was taken recently. When the results come back, then the township will know how much it would cost to have the building removed. Meanwhile, talks continue with the USPS, about alternatives. They have to do a study on how much mail goes in and how much space they would need for a post office, Once that is determined, township officials will have to look for rental space in Ramsay or build one. Bessemer Township owns the Ramsay Post office building.
