WASHINGTON, D.C – On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced an $8,800,000 grant for the Upper Peninsula counties affected by the Father’s Day Flood in 2018. This money will go to Gogebic, Houghton, and Menominee counties specifically. On June 17, 2018, heavy rainfall caused flooding in those counties in the Upper Peninsula. Areas of the affected counties received as much as 7 to 10 inches of rain in a matter of hours that caused extreme runoff and flooding. Eligible repair work includes emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage, or protect the remaining facilities as well as permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to its pre-disaster condition.
