BESSEMER TOWNSHIP – Recent disruptions of garbage pickup to the Gogebic Range was the result of the dismissal of two Gogebic Range Solid Waste Management Authority drivers, according to the supervisor’s report discussed last night at the Bessemer Township Board. The Gogebic Range Solid Waste Management Authority, is in charge of garbage the garbage pickup in Marenisco Township, the city of Wakefield, Wakefield Township, the city of Bessemer, Bessemer Township and Ironwood Township. The two drivers fired were the only two with a commercial driver’s license to operate the two garbage trucks which resulted in the disruption of services. Two more new drivers were hired to operate the dumpster trucks. In other business last night the supervisors approved allowing a call for bids to dig a swimming hole in Ramsay Memorial Park. The project is part of ongoing work to restore the area of a former swimming pool and structures near that was washed out by a 1992 flood.
