Group forms to save “Midgets” name and mascot

HURLEY – Last Monday night the Hurley School board voted to discontinue the “Midgets” name and mascot, When we posted this action on the MIX 106.9 Facebook page comments of mostly outrage took place. Now there is a group forming to try to save the name and mascot. A meeting has been organized and will be held at the Iron County Memorial Building on Wednesday, January 30th at 6pm. The meeting is to discuss the Hurley School Board’s decision to end the use of the Midget mascot at the end of this school year. The meeting will discuss the board’s actions and will present facts relating to it. Ideas will be discussed for events / action to be taken which will support keeping the Midget mascot. All interested persons are encouraged to attend. This includes residents, non-residents, parents, students and alumni. The group is also looking for volunteer legal representation is welcome at the meeting also.
