ASHLAND – The Ashland City Council will vote tomorrow on whether to allow multiple housing units on the site of the old opera house. The Daily Press reports Mayor Matthew MacKenzie is on board with the idea of converting the third floor of the building into four condominium units, each with a patio or deck on the east side of the building. On the main floor there would be two one-bedroom apartments and the second floor would have two two-bedroom apartments. Local physician Scott Warren came up with the idea of converting the Grand Opera house built in 1893 into housing. Warren’s plan would preserve much of the historic building’s facade.
