Plan to reconnect trail #2 between Bessemer and Wakefield on the fast track

WAKEFIELD – A New Trail Has Been Named to Replace the Closed portion of trail #2 between Ramsay and Wakefield. The snowmobiling season starts on December 1 st and those who enjoy all the trails in the area have had to wrap their heads around the fact that a large section of Trail 2 was going to be unavailable. The DNR and the Gogebic Range Trail Authority were looking for solutions when the vice president of the trail authority reached out to a property owner who’d said no to granting access in the past. This year, however, Sandra and Cory Leuzzo said yes to granting use of the trail for one year. The new segment is expected to route snowmobilers onto Old U.S. 2 and then through the Leuzzos’ property. There are no road crossings on this route, compared to crossing five lanes twice with the previous trail. The agreement has been approved by Wakefield and Bessemer and now paperwork must be submitted to the DNR which is expected to fast track the process, so the season starts without a hiccup.
