IRONWOOD – It took two years of committee meetings, workshops, public hearings and several revisions, for the Ironwood City Commission to approve the city’s adult-use marijuana ordinance. The 3-2 approval amends the city code to regulate adult-use marijuana establishments with commissioners Jim Mildren and Joseph Cayer voted against the ordinance with Mayor Annette Burchell, casting the deciding vote in favor of the ordinance. The 6 classes include Marijuana retailer, micro-business, Grower, processor, secure transporter and safety compliance facility. The Ironwood website posted a draft of the ordinance and a map of where marijuana businesses will be allowed on their website www.cityofironwood.org. The map shows that establishments in the most part will be allowed along US-2 in the city along with commercial areas downtown and in the industrial park area. The ordinance allows 2 permits in each of the 6 categories and is set to go in affect in November of this year to allow time for administrative and enforcement structures to be put in place.
