Gov. Whitmer legislation gives military more time to return election ballots.

Written by on May 2, 2023

LANSING – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer Extending Ballot Return Times for Military. Governor Gretchen Whitmer yesterday signed legislation that will give military members and overseas voters extra time to cast and return their absentee ballots in future elections. Michigan clerks are required to electronically transmit or mail absentee ballots to military and overseas voters who requested one at least 45 days before an election and with the new bill, military and overseas voter’s ballots will count if received up to six days after the election. The new legislation brings Michigan elections on par with the state Constitution after voters approved expanded absentee voting last fall.
