BESSEMER – Copper Peak Moves Closer to Reopening with Funds from the State. The largest ski jump in the Western Hemisphere is getting more help to reopen, this time from the state of Michigan. As reported back in July, Copper Peak had received a financial investment of just over $150,000 to make upgrades to the lifts to include racks that would allow mountain bikes to the top easily. Now, the state of Michigan has stepped up with $20 million to be used for renovations. The plan is to open Copper Peak as the only ski-flying hill outside of Europe, and the only hill in the world with a year round surface. The ski jump has been closed since 1994.
