ASHLAND – Former Homeless Shelter in Ashland Gets New Life. A shelter that’s sat empty in Ashland has been awarded funding to renovate it and convert the building into temporary housing. The Ashland Daily Press reports that City Administrator Brant Kucera said the development is meant to help tenants move between crisis housing and a permanent home. The building, which is the two-story section of a motel on Lake Shore Drive, will cost around $400,000 to renovate into 11 units, plus one with a kitchenette and a laundry room. Tenants would be charged a low flat rate and could live there for two years. The project should be ready for tenants by the end of the year.
