Bergman votes YES, Tiffany votes NO last night

Written by on June 1, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Michigan Rep. Jack Bergman voted ‘yes’ to pass a federal debt bill last night that will allow the U.S. to avoid defaulting on its debt.  Bergman says this debt ceiling deal contains more conservative wins than any debt ceiling measure presented since he was elected to Congress.  Bergman says this legislation was not perfect, but it does begin clawing away what Bergman calls out-of-control spending habits of the US Government and calls it a good deal for conservatives.  Meanwhile Northern Wisconsin Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany, said he is voting against the debt ceiling bill saying he believes the default date set by the Treasury Department wasn’t a hard deadline.  Tiffany says the federal government has enough money to pay its bills here over the next few months and that this was an artificial date that would push Republicans to take a deal that would spend all kinds of money that we really don’t have.  In a statement Tiffany said “Congress cannot keep mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren. Wisconsinites sent me to Congress to shrink Washington and grow the American economy, and this bill failed to meet the moment.”
