Bayfield Part of Pilot Program to Create Energy Resiliency

BAYFIELD – Bayfield will soon be the site of a pilot project that will create a micro-grid in partnership with the state of Wisconsin and Xcel Energy. Xcel’s EMPOWER resiliency program allows customers to choose options that allows them to best meet their needs. The Bayfield project will allow the county jail and courthouse to isolate from the main utility grid in the event of an outage or emergency. As part of the project, the county has received a just under $274,000 grant from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin’s Office of Energy Innovation. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2023.
