The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has approved a mining permit amendment that will allow Highland Copper to begin construction at the Copperwood mine near the Gogebic / Ontonagon line. In addition to the Mining Permit, the Company has received three additional key permits from the MDEQ including the Air Discharge Permit, the Part 315 Dam Safety Permit-Tailing Dam and, as previously announced, the Wetland Permit. The application to obtain a Lake Superior water intake permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers is outstanding and a final decision is expected in the next few weeks. Their request to amend the permit that was originally granted in 2012 was approved by the DEQ. The decision comes after review of comments from a public hearing that was held on October 24th, 2018.
