Wakefield council looking to buy new public works buildings.

Written by on December 15, 2020

WAKEFIELD – The Wakefield City Council has entered into an agreement to purchase two lots and three buildings in the city’s industrial park to use for it’s public works department. The council agreed to purchase the former Lakeshore Equipment properties from Robert Maki at a cost of $400,000, though that agreement now involves only $5,000 in earnest money. Several steps will be required before the purchase can be finalized, possible early next year. The purchase order sites a number of contingencies from inspections to financing. The city of Wakefield hopes to borrow up to $450,000 through Rural Development with an assumed interest rate of 2.175% for 30 years. The city has an outdated shop in the former city hall building as well as cold storage buildings at the former WICO Mine site and a Quonset hut at the south end of Sunday Lake Street. More details and comment in this weeks Wakefield News / Bessemer Pick and Axe.
