Wakefield Council goes into closed session.

WAKEFIELD — The matter of purchase of the former Lakeshore Equipment properties in the Wakefield Industrial Park will be taken up at the Nov. 23 meeting of the Wakefield City Council. After a closed session “to discuss purchase or lease of property” Monday, the council left the lone agenda item related to the purchase on the table. That item was a report from city manager Robert Brown indicating a real estate appraisal of the property could cost “no more than $2,500” and an environmental analysis “not more than $3,500.” It was the third meeting attended by Robert Maki, owner of the property. He was part of the closed session. Looming projects continue to occupy the council. It adopted a conflict of interest policy, a requirement of Rural Development in order to allow the city to use RD funds to finance its projects. Those include a small water project at Bingoville and a larger water-sewer project in town, as well as, potentially, purchase of the Lakeshore property. An engineering agreement at a cost of no more than $20,000 for the Bingoville project was approved by the council. More detail and comment in this weeks Wakefield News / Bessemer Pick and Axe.
