EAGLE RIVER – A Vilas County shooting range remains shut down over safety concerns. In August the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources closed the state-operated C.W. Caywood Shooting Range off U.S. 51 after a inspection discovered stray bullets outside the facility which is a public access area. DNR officials say they submitted a plan for changes to insure safe shooting and now await getting the state to allocate money for those changes. There’s been no time frame for when the range will reopen.
