Today is election day!

IRONWOOD – Voters head to the polls today and locally there is a variety of local, county, state and federal offices to consider. On the Michigan side voters will vote for a U.S. Senator, 1st District Congressman, and the 110th state house seat. There are two contested state Supreme Court seats on the ballot, along with a number of uncontested races in the County including for 4th District Court of Appeals, 32nd Circuit Court, Gogebic County Prosecutor and school boards. The Ironwood Area Schools has a question on the ballot to renew the operating levy. Ballot questions include a Gogebic County proposal for renewal of separate tax limitations. There are two state constitutional amendment proposals on the ballot. Proposal 20-1 asks if money from oil and gas mining on state-owned lands would continue to be collected in state funds for land protection and creation of parks, nature areas and public recreation facilities. Proposal 20-2 asks if a search warrant should be required to access a person’s electronic data or electronic communications. In Iron County, besides president, voters will also select a member of Congress for the 7th District, a member of the state Assembly for the 74th district. There are also races for Iron County clerk and district attorney on the ballot. Polls are open until 8:00 tonight.
