The Race for Bayfield County Sheriff now getting Heated

Written by on July 12, 2022

BAYFIELD – The Race for Bayfield County Sheriff now getting Heated, One Candidate may Lack the Credentials for the job. The credentials of one of the candidates for Bayfield County Sheriff have been called into question. The Daily Press reports that Tony Williams, who currently serves as chief of police of Iron River and who is running for sheriff of Bayfield, says being certified as an officer of the law is key to being a good police Chief. Mark Pope hasn’t been certified since April of 2013. Pope contends he hasn’t made any arrests. Court documents say otherwise. The Bayfield County DA, Kimberly Lawton reached out to the DOJ, who in turn assigned an agent who spoke to Pope, who reminded him he was not to make any arrests. Whether or not the DOJ has opened an investigation or will remains to be seen.
