Road Projects underway

Written by on May 16, 2023

ONTONAGON – Bridgework Has Begun Ontonagon County and the Western U.P. Now that Spring seems to have settled in the U.P., more road work projects will be taking place in the area. The Michigan Department of Transportation has started work on three bridges in Iron and Ontonagon Counties, US-45 over the east branch of the Ontonagon River, M-64 over the Mineral River and M-69 over the Paint River. Some fairly full refurbishments will be underway, including replacing bridge joints, curb and gutter repair, guardrail replacement and approach work as well as railing and patching. Detours will be in effect and traffic may be limited to one lane of alternating traffic with temporary signals. MDOT expects the $2.9 million project to finish up in October. Construction began yesterday on WIS 27 in Bayfield County over The Ounce River Bridge.  The project is expected to be complete by the end of July. Crews will replace the bridge, pavement and guardrails. Drivers will not see a detour, but the road will be down to one lane and controlled with a traffic signal.
