UPPER MICHIGAN – Pushback on State’s Deer Harvest Reporting Requirements. Although recently the Michigan DNR asked those who haven’t reported their deer kill yet and are past the time limit to report anyway with no penalty, the Natural Resources Commission deer harvesting order will require hunters to report a harvest within 72 hours or risk a misdemeanor charge. According to House Bill 6354 which is currently in process, the commission cannot mandate reporting. According to State Representatives Greg Markkanen of Hancock and Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain, the state’s desire to gather information on game population management shouldn’t carry the possibility of criminal penalties.
