Not as many people traveled for Memorial Day.

ST. IGNACE, Mich.  – We have all seen the social media photos of a line of cars lined up to enter the UP from downstate just before the Memorial Day Weekend, however, The number of vehicles that crossed the Mackinac Bridge between Thursday and Memorial Day was actually down 34% compared to one year ago, according to the Mackinac Bridge Authority.  At 12:01 a.m. Friday, loosened coronavirus restrictions took effect for Upper Michigan and Northern Lower Michigan.   The Bridge Authority says backups were expected at the bridge’s tollbooths because credit cards take longer to process. The bridge stopped taking cash tolls in March because of COVID-19 concerns.
