Negligence Case Involving Ashland Clinic has been Settled.

ASHLAND – The family of an infant that suffered brain damage while in the care of Essentia Health’s Ashland Clinic has been awarded almost $19 million by a jury in Bayfield County. The Ashland Daily Press reports Johnny Galligan was born in February of 2013 at Memorial Medical Center and was discharged four days after his birth, despite a low heart rate and low birth weight. He developed an infection that was nearly fatal. The jury determined that Essentia Health’s clinic was negligent in his care and mandated the award for past and future medical expenses, and pain and suffering. Galligan is nearly deaf and blind, cannot walk or speak and has frequent seizures. Johnny’s family continues to care for him at home.
