IRONWOOD – A QUICK-HITTING WINTER STORM MOVES INTO OUR AREA TONIGHT as an area of low pressure will lift northeastward from the South Dakota/Nebraska border this morning to northeast Ontario by noon tomorrow. The system will bring gusty winds, rain, freezing rain, and snow to the region. Snow may begin falling over portions of central Minnesota this afternoon and, with the high sun angle in mid-March, accumulation should be limited to grassy and elevated surfaces before sunset. Snow, which may be heavy at times, along with freezing rain are expected this evening changing to all snow overnight. The heaviest snow accumulation should stretch along the North Shore with a swath of 3 to 8 inches expected. Freezing rain and snow will affect portions of far northern Wisconsin and the Western U.P. overnight. Strong winds of 10 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph are possible this afternoon and evening could cause Sporadic power outages. Precipitation will taper off tomorrow morning as the system moves out of the area.
