EWEN – Michigan Department of Transportation closed the bridge on M-28 on the South Branch Ontonagon River near Ewen due to flooding. Currently, the river is 15 feet from the original riverbed. In the last 24 hours, the water has risen about 32 inches with more expected as the weather remains warm. MDOT says M-28 will be open to local traffic only between US-45 and M-64. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via US-2 and US-45, with the detour reversed for westbound traffic. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. No local road detour routes are available. There is currently no estimate for the duration of this closure. Students in Ewen-Trout Creek schools were dismissed at noon yesterday just before the bridge closure and ETC schools have been closed for today.
