IRONWOOD – The Ironwood City Commission Holds Public Meeting on Water Treatment Plant Project. A representative of the engineering company handling the city’s proposed water treatment plant gave a report during the public comment segment of the Ironwood Commission earlier in the week. Jeff Sjoquist of Coleman Engineering addressed the status of funding for the first phase of the project, as well as giving a budget update. Sjoquist said he had high hopes for significant grant funding, stating that there had been positive response from the state department of Environment and Great Lakes and Energy. Sjoquist answered questions from the commissioners an d the public, including reporting that right now local water is being treated to keep it safe and that once the treatment plant is completed, Hurley will be buying some of its water from Ironwood and that no new wells will be dug as part of the new plant.
