Dollar General site plan approved in Bessemer.

BESSEMER – Another step is taken to convert a Bessemer hotel into a Dollar General store. The city’s planning commission approved the site plan for the retailer to replace the Travelers Motel on U.S. 2. The hotel will stay open until a property sale is finalized. Dollar General officials say that the construction will mean some local jobs as contractors generally hire area workers because of familiarity with the area. The store is expected to open next summer.
