Bayfield County Deputy charged on child porn charges,

ASHLAND, WI — The Bayfield County deputy sheriff arrested for child pornography has officially been charged and identified. According to the criminal complaint filed in Ashland County Circuit Court, Dain Peterson, 30, of Ashland, Wisconsin, faces four counts of possessing and uploading multiple video files of underage girls engaging in various sex acts. The complaint alleges Peterson uploaded the videos from a Kik Messenger account in April 2021. On August 9, authorities obtained search warrants and arrested the suspect after tracking an IP address to his Ashland residence. According to authorities, Peterson admitted to owning the account and email the material was uploaded under. If convicted, he could face a $100,000 fine and up to 25 years in prison. Peterson has since been released on a $500 cash bond. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 24.
