UPPER MICHIGAN – Portage Health Foundation Gives Much Needed Medical Equipment Away in U.P. Automated external defibrillators have been awarded to organizations in the U.P. through a grant from the Portage Health Foundation. 49 organizations in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties received an AED, including Baraga area schools, Baraga County Road Commission, the Houghton County Courthouse and Road Commission garage locations, Houghton County Sheriff’s vehicles, and the Western U.P. Health Department Ontonagon Clinic. The Portage Health Foundation said AEDs were chosen as cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S.
