GCC Board of Trustee meeting yesterday

IRONWOOD – Personnel was the main topic on the agenda of the Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees regular monthly meeting. Dave Erickson submitted his request to retire after 16.5 years of service to GCC in the Maintenance and Custodial Department. The board authorized the search for his replacement. Michelle Wasielewski, of Wakefield was hired as the Staff Accountant position her duties begin September 7th. Trevor Ploe, of Houghton was approved to fill the nursing Instructor position at the Copper Country Center. Noel Aho, of Hurley was hired as the Woman’s Softball Coach, Denver Sharrow, of Ironwood was approved as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, Breanne Lombardo, director of Financial Aid, has submitted her letter of resignation. The trustees authorized the search for a replacement along with a third party interim solution until the position is filled. Other notes the college approved Angelo Luppino to develop a road to provide access to the three remaining properties on college owned land for the new building trades home off of Mt. Zion Drive in Ironwood. Also other notes under the direction of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Porcupine Mountains GCC has sought bids for the retrofitting of the chair lift. The request for proposals included an engineering study done to determine the ability to increase capacity on the downhill rider side of the chair lift to accommodate increased summer traffic. The trustees accepted the bid by SkyTrans Manufacturing LLC from Contoocook, NH under the caveat that the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources reimburses the college for the project.
