Wakefield projects move forward.

Written by on March 9, 2021

WAKEFIELD — Wakefield projects advanced at Monday’s city council meeting, held virtually, and not least the move to new quarters for the city’s public works department. The council voted 5-0 to publish a notice of intent to issue bonds for not more than $440,000 in order to purchase the former Lakeshore Equipment properties in the Wakefield Industrial Park. Matt Treado of U.P. Engineers and Architects offered updates on several projects. Treado said the city is in line for a grant of up to $296,500 to completed a required Drinking Water Asset Management Plan. That plan is part of an overall effort to get lead and galvanized water service lines to residences replaced, as required by Michigan law. As of Jan. 31, the city filed for a grant of $500,000 to do this work, which would happen in connection with the proposed $2.75 million water project to be conducted during 2022. Treado said part of the project, new water service to the Bingoville neighborhood on the north edge of the city, might take place this year, with the remainder the following construction season. More in this weeks Wakefield News / Bessemer Pick and Axe.
