IRONWOOD – The mystery water main break causing discolored water in parts of Ironwood has been solved. Earlier in the week the city suspected there was a watermain break somewhere but was unable to find it. A tip from the public lead city crews to a private water line leading to a former Josephson’s Nursing Home in the 600 block of Ayer Street. The 4-inch lateral line leading from the city main to the former Nursing Home broke and since the building is not occupied there was no one to inform the city of the problem. The line apparently froze and broke. City crews hope to get a look at the basement of the facility today to determine if any damage occurred. The former Nursing home closed several years ago, and the building has remained vacant as the search for a buyer continues.
