IRONWOOD – We’ve learned what led to yesterday’s power outage in Gogebic and Iron Counties. An Xcel Energy spokesperson says an equipment failure in the Ironwood substation knocked out service to around 8,600 customers at 11:30 a.m. and power was restored by 1:00 p.m. Areas affected also included parts of Iron County, Wisconsin and Ontonagon County. This is the second power outage since Dec. 4 when an substation equipment problem knocked out power to around 1,500 customers.
