Discussion over highway 51 / US 2 intersection last night

HURLEY – A meeting was held last night at the Iron County Court House in Hurley to discuss a possible change to the US-2 / Highway 51 intersection. Currently there is an overpass that merges traffic from Highway 51 to either East Bound or West Bound traffic on highway 2. At the meeting 3 proposals were presented one to rebuild the overpass and keep the intersection in its current configuration, two remove the overpass and install stop signs or three put in a roundabout. Those present all opposed the stop sign proposal, the roundabout idea was meet with some resistance by local residents not convinced that idea would work effectively, keep the intersection as is was the most popular. Some asked about installing bike lanes in the area as well when the intersection is planned for a rebuild in the summer of 2021. No decision regarding the intersection was made at the meeting last night.
