GOGEBIC / IRON COUNTY - The Michigan Department of Health is reporting 144 cases of COVID19 in Gogebic County NO increase from yesterday. Ontonagon County with 41 cases no increase since last Friday. While the Wisconsin Department of Health reports 136 cases in Iron County no increase since the middle of last week. As of yesterday, there have been a total of 1,749 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula during this outbreak. Of those, at least 983 are considered recovered and 26 have resulted in death. Upper Michigan added 90 coronavirus cases Wednesday. In Iron County COVID-19 positive rates are down, but Iron County Health Officer, Katie Hampston warns, “We can’t let our guard down.” Gov. Tony Evers has declared a new public health emergency and issued a new masking order as cases of COVID-19 grow. Wisconsin is now experiencing unprecedented, growth of the COVID-19 pandemic with the daily number of new cases rising from 678 on August 31st to 1,791 on September 21st, a 2.6-fold increase in three weeks, driven in part by the unprecedented number of infections among 18-24-year-olds. Over the last seven days, the state has recorded a 16.4 percent positive rate. The U.P rate is at 1.5 percent.
