ELECTION RESULTS!

HURLEY – Iron County Residents went to the Polls yesterday for the Spring Election.  Voters in the Hurley School District deciding on Jessica Leinon-Novascone to fill the seat of Joe Simonich who earlier announced he wasn’t running for another term. Leinon-Novascone with 614 votes defeating Jack Browns with 291 votes and Sharon Ofstad with 162 votes.   In Mercer, the two seats on the town board will be filled by Eric Snow and Opal Roberts.  Snow the top vote getter with 364 votes Roberts with 253 votes.  James Schmidt the odd man out with 192 votes.  Mercer residents also voting YES on a .5% Premier Resort Area Tax on certain purchases in order to generate revenue for road work.  The PRAT tax passing with 278 Yes Votes and 187 No votes.  Jill Underly rode support from the state teachers’ union and an overwhelming financial advantage to win the Wisconsin superintendent of school’s race. Underly defeated Republican-backed Deb Kerr.
