IRONWOOD – The Pat O’Donnell Civic center owned by the city of Ironwood and is located on the campus of Gogebic Community College remains closed after suffering significant damage for heavy snow loans on the roof last winter, now different area groups are wondering when work will be done so they can plan for their upcoming winter events. At Monday’s Ironwood City Commission meeting members of Ice Crystals Figure Skating Club, Polar Bear Hockey club and others sought information about the status and time-table on the repairs so they can plan for their upcoming seasons. Steve Wright, project manager for U.P. Engineers & Architects, said the city’s insurance company hired his company in February to inspect the building. Wright says the damage included about half of the roof system and the roof will need to be re-engineered to meet current code requirements. The civic center is 240 feet long by 120 feet wide whatever is decided materials needed for the structural repairs can take up to two months to be delivered in the meantime the civic center remains closed.
