IRONWOOD – After Pandemic Delays, Ironwood Gets Ready to Upgrade Fire Department Equipment. Ironwood will soon be the proud owner of a new Pierce Pumper Fire Engine. The city commission approved the purchase of the new piece of firefighting equipment at it’s meeting earlier in the week. The truck, once its ordered, will take three years to build and be delivered and will come in at a price tag of closed to $875,000. According to Ironwood’s Public Safety Director Andrew DiGiorgio says the city has roughly two and a half years to make the first payment on the truck. Ordering a new unit has been on the agenda for the city since before the pandemic, as the current engine is coming up on its best life expectancy. DiGiorgio says he’ll work with the city manager and finance director to budget the purchase in and will pursue all grant opportunities as well.
