Ironwood City Commission meeting last night

IRONWOOD – At yesterday’s Ironwood City Commission meeting commissioners approved the mayor’s appointment of Ivan Hellen to Ironwood’s Downtown Development Board. Hellen responded saying she doesn’t exactly know what the board does, but is looking forward to being part of improving downtown Ironwood. The commission approved awarding contractors to demo blighted houses in the city last night. Angelo Luppino, LLC was awarded the bid to remove 5 blighted houses for a total cost of $86,325. The houses which will be razing are: 109 Norrie St., 321 Alfred Wright Blvd., 419 n Suffolk St., 113 South Range Rd. and 208 Clemens St. Snow Country Contractors was awarded $19,469 to demolition the house at 149 W. Larch St. “Hardest Hit” blight grant will go towards the funding needed to cover costs of demolition. The removal of the commercial structure at 238 E. Ayer St. will be completed by utilizing grants from the Michigan Rural Community Demolition Grants. In other business: Approved resolution #019-008 to schedule a public hearing for the remidiation of the blighted property located at 107 and 111 W. McLeod Ave.
