WAKEFIELD – The cost of dying just went up in Wakefield. Last night the Wakefield City Council adopted new rates for Lakeside Cemetery services on a 3-0 vote. Rates for most services went up by $25 for city residents, and $50 for non-residents. Opening a grave now costs $625 and $850, respectively, and burial of cremated remains cost $425 and $550, respectively. The council also added a charge of $100 for a so-called “mausoleum receiving fee,” in which city workers provide pallbearer assistance. New cemetery rules call for more orderly decoration of graves.
