WAKEFIELD – Wakefield postal worker Sandy Olson receives honors from the Post Master General after her quick action while on her mail route. Olson was delivering a package, when she noticed a very strong odor which turned out was a gas leak at a Wakefield home. Olson said she pounded on the door. Receiving no response, and not having cellphone, drove to a fireman’s home who happened to be on her route and informed him about the leak before continuing on to finish delivering the mail. Turns out the homeowner was “sleeping” in the home due to carbon dioxide inside the home reaching dangerous levels. Wakefield Postmaster Drew Tikkanen said she submitted Olson’s story to a internal publication of the post office called “Heroes Corner.” She said the story was published and Olson received a commendation from the Postmaster General. Olson, has approximately 450 customers on her route.
