LANSING – Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield says the proposed 45-cent per gallon increase is too expensive. The top Republican in the House says his chamber will be coming up with its own proposal to raise the money needed to fix Michigan’s roads, which is what Whitmer intends to do with the higher gas and diesel tax. Chatfield adds many drivers are furious with the governor’s proposal, which would result in the highest fuel taxes in the nation.
